Dramatify Connector

An SPX extension to sync content between SPX and Dramatify

Dramatify is a collaboration platform for the entire team from idea to shooting and playout. For more see dramatify.com

Dramatify Connector SPX Entension can send a template collection from a selected SPX project to Dramatify. Once templates are populated in Dramatify they can be read back to SPX and generate a new rundown.

To be able to use Dramatify Connector you need to get your personal Access Token from Dramatify.

Installation and setup

You need authentication from both systems to be able to use the workflow.

DRAMATIFY
Contact Dramatify support to have SPX enabled. Once that is done in the backend for your account, you should be able to locate your access token from the SPX section of your user profile in Dramatify.

SPX
Get SPX DramatifyConnector and install it normally to SPX/ASSETS/plugins/dramatifyConnector -folder.

Extension needs some information to run:

  1. SPX License key.  When the plugin is first used, it will ask for a license string. If you haven't received it, ask if from SPX support and paste into the license dialog. SPX saves the license and only asks it once it expires.

  2. Your Personal Access Token. The access token is saved and it can be changed or removed with the Token -link at the footer of the extension.

Once installed correctly,  you will see a Dramatify Connector button as one of the plugin buttons in SPX.

Licenses are unique and it is tied to your HOST-ID and for a selected time period. When making a license request, you will need to provide HOSTID and your Purchase Order number from the subscription confirmation to SPX.

Licensing does not require an internet connection.

Please note: in the current extension version, license renewal does not happen automatically and the extended license will need to be requested and issued by SPX support and installed manually. In an upcoming update this will be automated and license activation happens in the backend for as long as the subscription is active.

For development: It is possible to add dramatify.apiurl and dramatify.apikey to the config-file for testing extension in a dedicated test environment. This is only for dev purposes and does not effect regular usage of the extension.

Once the license is issued and received from SPX and added to the license textfield and saved succesfully, the application opens and continues to work normally as long as the license is valid.

Workflow

SPX DramatifyConnector extension has two modes, that can be toggled with the Mode Toggle button in the footer.

  • for exporting templates from SPX to Dramatify
  • for importing content from Dramatify to SPX
Typical workflow steps are:

  • HTML graphics are implemented as SPX templates by a graphics developer
  • New project is created in SPX and templates are imported there
  • Template info is uploaded to Dramatify with the extension
  • Templates are added to Rundowns > Scenes > Shots in Dramatify and fields are populated with actual content
  • Data is read back to SPX with the extension which will create new SPX rundowns per Dramatify rundown

Exporting templates from SPX to Dramatify

  1. Templates are ready to use in SPX project
  2. SPX project and the matching Dramatify production is chosen in the DramatifyConnector's "Send SPX Templates" mode and data is sent
  3. In the Dramatify script, SPX Graphics item is added to a shot
  4. In the SPX Template Content dialog the desired SPX template is selected from a collection of templates
  5. Content fields appear and fields are populated with relevant content (person name, job title, etc)

When Save is clicked, the data is stored within Dramatify and it is waiting to be re-imported to SPX for playout.

Importing content from Dramatify to SPX

  • In DramatifyConnector's "Fetch" mode, choose the source Dramatify production
  • Click GET. All rundowns, including a list of SPX templates and their content are loaded from the Dramatify server to memory.
  • The name of the original SPX project (where templates were originally sent) is shown and each rundown (or episode) are show as checkbox selectors, all being checked by default. Click IMPORT to generate selected rundowns.
  • Go back to the SPX Project (and reload the view if necessary). All imported rundowns are named using the following convention:
    DRAMATIFY-<ProdID>--YYYY-MM-DD--hh-mm-ss

This naming convention means a new rundown is generated at each import and existing SPX data, and potential downstream changes within in, are never overwritten.
